Thirty. What a dirty little number. It is no secret to anyone that I am not particularly found of the number three. But I am entering a decade where the number 3 will proceed my age for 10 years and a double whammy at thirty-three. So I had better open my arms and give this thirty thing a try. I don’t seem to have much of a choice and Mother Nature sure didn’t ask my opinion on the matter.

When I look back on my life thus far, my teen years were fun. I wasn’t reckless or wild but more naive and trusting. I enjoyed my life. A lot. My teen years were a lot happier for me than my twenty’s and I made friends that I still have to this day. Friends, that I may not talk to every day but when push comes to shove I know they will always be there for me if and when they are needed.

My twenties brought a lot of heartbreak.  I fell in love, had my heart broken, married the wrong man and got divorced. My family fell apart and with support from one another we rallied to pick up the pieces. I graduated college and a few years later married again. This time to the most perfect man the world could offer to me. I started running and ran half marathons and one marathon. I developed an unnatural obsession with food that has in some shape or form plagued me ever since.

Today I am 30. Today I am entering in a new decade. In this new decade I plan to strive towards happiness and inner peace each and every day. For me, happiness is not a natural state; it is something that needs to be fostered. I want to become a more confident woman and start a family one way or another. I want to enjoy my thirties. In all honesty, since my twenties weren’t exactly a cup of tea, I should be looking forward to a new decade and a new saga in the chapter of my ever changing life. So I want to smile. I want to welcome in my day and I want to not be so scared. There, I said it. Thirty scares me. But what better way to kick fear’s ass than to admit it. So happy 30th birthday to me and here’s hoping that the dirty little number three actually proves to be all in my head.

Yes! Being the young wife does make it easier! For sure!

I totally agree that after everything that happened in your 20s, your 30s are bound to be fantastic! I totally think 30 is awesome because I am happy where my life is. Mother Nature doesn’t ask us if we want to age, but given the alternative (death), I’ll take aging! And I’m so proud of you for sharing so much!!

Thanks Allena…as someone who knows it all. I love you. 🙂

  16. April 12, 2011 10:26 am

    Happy birthday!!!!!

I’m in my 30s as you know, and these 2 short years have been better than any in my 20s by far! I am wiser, happier, and just all around more content with myself and where I am in life. You’re going to love it in the club, WELCOME!!

We’ll have to celebrate your belated birthday in a month!!

    • April 12, 2011 1:01 pm

YES!!! I am counting on one big throw down Canyon party in MAY! I can’t wait to see you!!!!!

  18. April 12, 2011 10:48 am

Happy Birthday! I think 30 will scare me too, but I’m inspired by the way you’re tackling it with such a healthy, optimistic perspective!

  19. April 12, 2011 12:00 pm

Happy Birthday!!! You are going to rock your 30s. I love my 30s…wiser every year and we learn to love ourselves and not to care about perceptions etc. And I can tell a 20 something to get me a glass of wine – NOW – and they don’t question me. 🙂 EMBRACE it.

  20. April 12, 2011 12:41 pm

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great one. You deserve the best. And I have no doubt great things will be coming your way in this new year, decade, etc. 🙂

I am a little late here, but happy birthday! If you feel old, just remember that I have three years on you! I turn 33 next week. Honestly though, once you get over the initial weirdness of no longer being in your twenties, your 30s really doesn’t feel any different. I feel better about myself than I did in my 20s actually.
