flash mob

July 21, 2011

Thanks to everyone who chimed in yesterday and made me not feel shallow for complaining about my bad day even though most you thought the egg story was quite funny. I’m so glad you did! ha! But let’s just say that things have most definitely improved!

So you all know what a flash mob is right? Well just in case, it is a group of people who assemble unexpectedly in a public place and dance briefly in unison. How freaking nerdy cool is that?!? Well Austin is hosting on this Friday at 11:00am at Zilker Park (for all your Austin readers) and it is going to be to Michael Jackson’s Thriller! I could not be more excited about this! Keith and I are definitely going although he said he wasn’t dancing. Me? HECK YEAH I AM! It may or may not be posted onto You Tube at some point! 🙂

Have you ever participated in a flash mob? If you haven’t, would you?

This isn’t Austin’s first time to do this! Here is a You Tube video of it in 2008. I love my city!!

grumpster in the house

July 20, 2011

Yesterday I was grumpy. Like really really grumpy. So grumpy in fact that I think Keith was this close (she holds her thumb and first finger barely apart) to sleeping outside with the chickens. (I am kidding but I think in a personality contest the chickens would have beat me by a long shot yesterday) I can’t even tell you exactly what is was but more like what is wasn’t! It was just one of those days that so many little things went wrong that it added up to a grumpy Kelly.

  • I swear I developed restless leg syndrome and couldn’t stop twitching all night! It was like my legs kept saying, “move me!” So irritating.
  • I realized at 6:30am that my library book was due back the day before #FAIL
  • I found out Tom Cruise is going to be playing Jack Reacher in the upcoming movie One Shot. Believe me this has got to be the worst casting decision of all time. Such a bummer!
  • We switched our cable plan and now we get NO channels. Oh wait that’s not true we get 150 channels that I would never in a million years think to watch. Wonderful.
  • I completed 2 full lessons for my teacher certification (about 3 hours of my time) and then the system locked up and didn’t record any of my test scores.
  • All through my morning workout I could only think about coffee only to discover we were completely out when I went to make some.
  • I grabbed a hard-boiled egg from the fridge only to discover it wasn’t hard-boiled when I went to peel it. Now I don’t know how you peel a hard-boiled egg but I pretty much smash it onto the counter first to breakup the shell. Yeah….
  • At 12:00 I was eating tuna sandwich as I remembered my dentist appointment at 12:30. I feel like I should call my dentist back today and apologize for the tuna decision.
  • I misread the surprise party invitation I got and called my friend (the one getting the surprise) asking if she needed me to bring anything to the party. #double fail
  • I am finding new gray hairs every morning! Grrrr….I am waging war on my head! It is times like this when I wish my hair wasn’t so stinking dark!

Okay but I can honestly say that after typing out that list of my “horrible day” it really doesn’t seem that bad. It could be a lot worse. I know that. But sometimes a little venting about a day that seemed to have a lot of minor speedbumps does help.

It’s  good thing he is so cute or I might not be his friend on days like this! ha!

birthday celebrations get better with age

July 18, 2011

This weekend my cousin, Katie, celebrated her 28th birthday. Here we are when we were kids at summer camp. We’re the two on the end…she’s the red head…obviously. 🙂

You know you are getting more mature when your birthday party is a potluck girl’s brunch verses an all night drunk fest downtown. I must say a potluck brunch is just my style. There was so much delicious food plus peach belinis to keep everyone happy. Good food + good drinks + even better company = a successful birthday celebration!

Since I have five little chickens running around my yard and getting close to 30 eggs a week I knew I wanted to make an egg dish. But that was about as far as I got. Then Lori posted her Paleo Breakfast Bake and I knew I had my dish for the party!

(Fresh Chicken) Egg Breakfast Bake adapted from What Runs Lori

  • 12 eggs
  • 6 chicken and maple breakfast sausages, cooked and sliced (I used Applegate Farms)
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 6 tbsp onions, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tsp each, salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients, folding gently to incorporate all. Pour into a greased 9×13 glass Pyrex baking dish.

Bake for 45 minutes. Easy. As. That.
