not going to lie

November 9, 2011

I’m not going to lie to you; I’m in a little funk today.

I thought about hiding behind my blog and posting a real “happy happy joy joy” post and then decided I didn’t have the energy.

Yesterday we got all the medical bills.

Holy Shit.

I can’t even being to tell you how frustrating it is to have these bills and to get nothing in return. Lots of money (lots of money) but no baby.

No anything in fact.

Both the husband and I are self-employed so our insurance is obviously not as great as company group insurance. And that sucks. Isn’t America supposed to reward small business owners. Aren’t they supposed to be the backbone of the economy?

So why then are we so punished when it comes to healthcare?

I am sick to my stomach right now and just defeated.

So defeated.

The miscarriage was bad; the money it took to do it even worse. It was cheaper for me to chop off my finger last year and have it reattached than it was for this procedure.

I wish I could be more cheerful.

I’m sorry.

Maybe tomorrow.

getting festive with it

November 8, 2011

Yesterday I went to the OB for a follow-up visit from the miscarriage. According to my doctor, I need to have two normal periods and then we can start trying again. I should have a period 4-6 weeks from the date of the D&C. Should. So from here I am just going to pray that I have two normal periods on schedule and can start trying again soon. I guess until then there is nothing left for me to do but wait and hope. It it’s hard because I feel like so many people are pregnant both in my real life and in the blog world. I am so truly happy for all of them but it still stings a little when I think about where I am. But I also know that I am lucky to have what I do have (read: my amazing husband) And again, as always, thank you for the amazing support.

Moving on…

I am not sure if anyone has noticed but it’s almost the holidays.

Believe me, if you live in Texas you haven’t noticed. Hello we’re still in the freaking 80’s.

And for the record “freaking” was not the word I wanted to use there.

I know. I know. When it gets really cold here (you know like in the 40’s) I will be complaining and moaning and wishing for these 80 degree temps back. But today I’m not. Today I want some fall chill. I am tired of the excessive heat we seem to be having in these Southern parts.

I mean it can’t be normal to be in shorts, a tank top and flip-flops in November.

And yes, I realize all my twitter friends who are posting pictures of snowfall hate me.

[Sigh]

I can’t win.

But I can pretend to be in the fall festive spirit. Right?

I can even forget my dislike for pumpkin and make pumpkin cookies.

Why?

Because they smell like fall and the Holidays and all the things it is supposed to be in November!

That’s why Dammit!

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to get some fall feeling into your life. Because Mother Nature clearly missed the memo.

Pumpkin Cookies

1 cup flour

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

dash of salt

1/2 cup pumpkin

1/4 cup applesauce

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream sugar, applesauce, and vanilla. Stir in pumpkin, set aside.

In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir into the creamed mixture and mix well.

Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned on top.

Serves: 24

Are you ready for the holiday season?

things i am [currently] loving

November 7, 2011

Currently I am loving the following things:

  • Kale Chips. Keith and I can eat the crap out of these things.

  • Sprints. Lately I have been doing treadmill sprinting. 20 seconds on/40 seconds off. I usually do 20 at 10.5 on the treadmill. Add in a 5 minute warm up and cool down and you have a quick 30 minute workout that makes me sore in all the right places. 🙂
  • Reusable ice cubes! These work wonders for icing any body part. They don’t leak or drip. Score! And in the summer they make cute ice cubes for entertaining.

  • Watching Tom Brady throw an interception! Sorry to all you New England fans. 😉

  • This season of Castle. But let’s be honest I am sooooo ready for him and Beckett to finally get together!

  • Reading all the NYC Marathon recaps. Congratulations to everyone who ran this past weekend. You guys rock!
  • And of course, this isn’t current, but I can’t leave Peyton Manning off the list. You had to know this was coming! Even if he is hurt this season and isn’t playing he will always make my list. Ha!

What are you [currently] loving?

plain jane

November 4, 2011

I am a plain jane kind of person.

I like things simple.

I order coffee at Starbucks. Coffee. Sometimes a vanilla latte.

I don’t wear makeup and I don’t buy designer clothing.

My car has 107,000 miles on it but it’s paid off and runs perfectly. I don’t need a new one.

I don’t need the latest and greatest technology.

I eat my pancakes and waffles without syrup.

I hate chocolate in sweet breads.

I can watch the same movies over and over and reread books.

I like the original Kombucha flavor.

I am a simple girl.

I am glad Keith likes simple.

I am perfectly content to slip on my pajama pants and read on a rainy afternoon or any afternoon.

My favorite soup is plain tomato.

I wear Birkenstocks.

I wash my whites and colors together in cold because it’s quicker and have never had a problem.

My favorite shoes are flip-flops that are 5 years old.

Simple. Simple. Simple.

Fess up…are you simple or do you have a flair for the dramatic?
