summer
Okay so I am not a huge summer fan. And total side rant but who decided that the first day of summer was June 20th? That person does not live in Austin because I am pretty sure we’ve been in summer since (oh you know) March!
Now when I was a kid I loved summer.
Like looooooooved summer.
Summer meant the pool and no school and the pool.
But as an adult I find that summer brings about worries and hates that as a kid I didn’t have.
Things like: my electric bill goes through the roof (I am in Texas AKA Hell) and it gets ridiculously hot with no break for months on end. There is nothing I like less than spending money on electricity. Ick.
Things like: how I sweat through the shower. I get so hot (because of the humidity in the air) during my morning workouts that I sweat while I am taking a shower. And don’t even get me started on blow drying my hair. RIDICULOUS.
Things like: how it takes me until I just about get to my destination before my car finally cools down. Never buy a black car when you live in the South. Trust me.
Things like: burn bans because of what they imply.
Things like: how it never rains here and we get put on water rations. I am allowed to water twice a week if I am lucky and somehow my yard is supposed to survive? Really?
But on the rare occasion that it does rain I will inevitably be on my morning walk with Bella when it starts pouring.
But truth be told…I loved every drop of that rain. We haven’t seen rain in months and it was a welcome gift. Even if I got soaked and Bella (who has never been in rain before) was so confused as to where it was coming from. She kept looking up at the sky and then at me with what I can only imagine as a “What the heck is that?” look! It was a puppy first! 🙂
Does anyone notice a trend here? I hate summer because I hate the weather! Was it really this hot when I was a kid? How did I not notice? Or is it because I am just older and more things are directly affected by the temperature that I notice how dang hot it is?!
Sheesh.
Fall…when is fall?
Are you a summer lover?
UGH I am not quite a [Texas] summer lover either and can support every.single.one of the statements above. Our electric bill was $124 for May. MAY!! It wasn’t even that hot yet, which means … expensive months are on their way 😦 And I totally hear you on the black car. Tinted windows are something I definitely SHOULD have invested in. But didn’t.
Funny, I loved summer a lot more when I lived in NJ & Florida. Maybe because I always had the beach and the pool readily available? Not sure.
Have a great weekend! 🙂
Oh I know! We just pumped another 25 bags of insulation into our attic so hopefully our electric bills are slightly lower but I am not going to hold my breath.
I LOVE SUMMER! I live in the Midwest though. So, for us, June really is the start of summer. We have had a few really hot weekends but have wavered back and forth between high 90s and 70s + wind/rain. I would love a perfect mid-70s summer – sunny but moderate. But, in the meantime, I’ll always take summer over winter! I love to be able to go to the beach, walk outside, play golf, etc. Things I just cannot do when there are snow piles and negative temps. However, I had a car without AC for years – BRUTAL. I hope it cools down in Texas so you can enjoy summer a bit. 🙂
I agree! I hate summer in MN because I hate heat and humidity. My ideal temp for summer would be 75 and breezy. I would take winter over summer any day!
Kelly, Kelly, Kelly – I’m sorry to hear you hate summer so much. OMGosh, it’s my absolute favorite time of the year. (Only wish now I was a teacher! LOL) The days are longer, you can be outside…yes in the heat/humidity. Ok – I’ll give you that it doesn’t make for the greatest hair days with the humidity, but we have to give on something. I love to sweat when I work out in the heat – makes me feel like I really did something! Winter – you all can have it. I hate every minute of it. I absolutely HATE to be cold. I prefer t-shirt, shorts and flip flops – wish I could wear it every day of the year. =) I miss you at bootcamp and bookclub. Hope to see you soon! (((hugs)))
Charla!! I will definitely be at book club next month! I miss you!!
I LOVE summer, but that’s mostly because we don’t have weather like you here in NY. Plus I still love it from my teaching days when it meant freedom! 🙂
i am gonna rant right there with you!! Higher bills, showering 3x a day, ugh!
I am with you! I would absolutely die if I lived in Texas, I think. We had two 100 degree days in RI last week and I wanted to murder everyone and spent all day in my bedroom because that’s where our AC is. The good things though, are summer vacation, delicious food and grilling 24/7!
