i am so over it

August 2, 2011

I am so over summer. Like really FN@%&K$## over it! We are easily 10 degrees above normal every single day. It is dry, hot and dusty and I don’t even think I remember what rain looks like. Hitting 104 day after day for weeks on end is not my idea of fun. Here are the highlights of this summer misery:

  • My electric bill is off the hook insane and we don’t even keep our house as cool as we would like!
  • I start sweating immediately upon going outside
  • I take at least 2 showers a day ad sweat through them both.
  • Jumping in the pool is more like jumping into warm bath water. Fun.
  • Garden? What garden?
  • I am scared my chickens are going to die from heat stroke
  • Grilling out has become a chore versus a summer past time.
  • Exercising outdoors is  exhausting for at least a few hours after the activity is finished.
  • Keith has been playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with me to see who has to mow the yard except now when I lose I can’t just smile, bat my eyes and get out of it.
  • It hasn’t rained in MONTHS! My water bill is also frighteningly high.
  • I haven’t actually wanted cooked food but living on smoothies and cereal isn’t going to cut it
  • I have forgotten that grass is actually green in color
  • Look at our 7 day forecast…this is insane and makes me completely miserable (and NO we did not get any rain from that 20% chance last Saturday)

Is the weather bad where you are??

On another note, did anyone watch The Bachelorette season finale last night? Thoughts? I was very excited she picked JP but did feel sorry for Ben. Being dumped on national television is never one of your finer moments.

Ugh, I agree. My air is out in my car, too…so I sweat the whole way home from work and have to change clothes as soon as I arrive home. Death!

  2. August 2, 2011 7:53 am

Kelly I totally agree! It has been unbearable here. I hate sweating the second I get outside — and my sunglasses fog up as soon as I get out of my car. I want to enjoy my time outside but there is no amount of water on earth that can keep me cooled down in this awful heat.

I know! I hate to be a complainer but enough is enough!!

It’s horrible!! I can’t let my dogs out for more than 5 minutes & I can’t even take my son out cause it’s just way too freaking hot for him. I’m ready for fall!

Who do you think will be the next Bachelor- Ben or Ryan? I’m convinced it’s going to be one of these two and I’d bet on Ryan.

    • August 2, 2011 8:12 am

ME TOO!! I said the same thing to Keith last night…I am also betting on Ryan.

  4. August 2, 2011 8:40 am

Right there with you! I have a 5-month old so the heat like traps us, we can’t go anywhere!

  5. August 2, 2011 9:18 am

That is crazy and it’s not even a heat wave just the norm for you guys. We had a few days like that a week or so ago. It was tough. I don’t know how you do it. I also don’t know how we put up with the insane cold in the winter..hmm where can we go that has 70 degree weather all year long? 🙂

  6. August 2, 2011 9:26 am

AMEN! I stay at work during lunch becuase it’s the only time when cold hair is blowing on me. We haven’t turned our AC on like we want either, but our bill is still crazy. Oh and we live in a loft, WTF?

  7. August 2, 2011 9:52 am

I feel your pain lady. We’re going on like our 17th day of 90+ temps. It’s ridiculous, it’s too hot to even go to the pool!

    • August 2, 2011 12:32 pm

And you guys don’t have AC…I don’t how you are doing this!!!

  8. August 2, 2011 10:38 am

Our electric bill is higher this summer with only 3 of us in the house than last summer with 6 of us. And same as you, it’s not even as cool as we’d like it in there! Our yard looks like someone lit it on fire – no traces of green at all.

Don’t even get me started on long runs … 80+ degrees combined with 80+% humidity at 5am? Not ideal. Fall cannot get here fast enough!!

Ah! I know, I’m freaking OVER it! Please hurry on over Fall & Winter! Oh and I love Ben and felt so bad for him. 😦 He’s such a good guy; JP is a whiner, but I don’t think he will last w/ Ashley even though they are both whiny babies!

I am sooooooo with you on this one!! Here’s our forecast for this week:
    M- 105
    T- 105
    W – 105
    TR – 106
    F – 105
    Sa – 104
    Su – 103
Ahhhh! I dread going outside (especially with my sweet little 10 month old heater attached to me – that and nursing ups my temp at least 10 more degrees). 🙂 I even wore workout shorts and a t-shirt to my SILs bday dinner at my MILs house last night because it was so hot! (ok their A/C won’t go below 84 so that might have aided in my clothing choice – ha!). So I’m with you! Bring on the cool weather!!

It’s awful Amanda. I am seriously hating summer this year. Hating it. 😦

  11. August 2, 2011 11:07 am

It’s 65 and cloudy here. I actually miss the heat of Vegas. Love dry and hot, love it!

    Yah JP! Awesome finale.

  12. August 2, 2011 11:12 am

I knew this was going to be your topic as soon as I saw the title. I literally whine about the heat any chance I get. I USED to love summer – now I want to just pitch a tantrum Trent-style. I hate that I can’t take him outside every time he asks – he doesn’t understand that it’s just too darn hot for his little body. I literally whined to my dad yesterday ‘And we have at least 6 more weeks of this’. His response ‘At least. And the hottest 6 weeks yet if we don’t get some rain’. Thanks Dad!

Oh, in case you didn’t see my response on my own blog, I went to ‘Natural Grocer’ in Arbor Walk. It had a lot of stuff I already know is bad for me, so I was kind of surprised. Lots of stuff I’m anxious to learn more about too!

  13. August 2, 2011 11:57 am

Ha! Just come out here. We’ve had a couple warm days, but I’m still sleeping with all my sheets at night. They said on the news that this year we’ve had a total of 2 hours over 26 degrees (celsius, I don’t know the conversion), and the average by this time is 18 hours. Its pathetic.

  14. August 2, 2011 12:25 pm

Girl – go to powertochoose.org and see if you are paying too much for electricity. I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging or anything but my bill had us paying 4.9 cents per kilowatt hour… You know it’s crazy hot in Houston this summer and my last bill was 160 and I have a big house… we set the temps at 78 while we are home (of course you have to have automatic thermostats too…)

    • August 2, 2011 12:29 pm

I went and checked that out and when I plugged in my zip code it said no offers available. That sucks! 😦

  15. August 2, 2011 12:40 pm

And I wanted to come visit you during the summer?!?! Yikes!!!

I actually don’t feel envious of your heatwave.. sorry. Soon! I feel just one day of rain coming your way SOON… poor garden… and bills! Oh my!

  16. August 2, 2011 12:49 pm

I completely agree. I know it’s summer and all, but seriously this heat is ridiculous! No flowers in my garden, my herb garden is just brown and wilted. My AC is now leaking because it’s been running too much. And now I have a cold to top it all off. Peachy!

  17. August 2, 2011 1:43 pm

Ugh, I agree – this is basically the post I wanted to write this morning! My PGE bill is 3 times what it is in the winter, my garden is dead (ok, I may have helped by spraying it with pest repellant that burnt the leaves to a crisp…), running outside sucks, and I’ve lost track of how many times a day I need to shower if I don’t want to be constantly covered in sweat. 🙂 I’m in Central CA (oh I wish all of CA was 70 year round!) and I’m just hoping this week dips back down below 100 like the weather forecast is promising!! The only good thing is that our heat is a dry heat… I think I might die if I had to deal with humidity on top of the heat 🙂

  18. August 2, 2011 5:11 pm

um ya, totally A BIT*H outside!!! Went to go swim laps at bellamar and it felt like bath water or sure. 2 showers are a must and so are extra fans! I hear ya.

  19. August 2, 2011 9:59 pm

I saw on the news they other day that you guys were getting insane heat, and I actually thought “poor kelly!”

Also, I just saw that you mentioned “The Bachelorette” and haven’t watched it yet so I skipped the rest of your post…I need to go catch up!
