talk talk talk talk talk

March 8, 2012

I’m a big talker. (Obviously I have a blog) But I mean like a really big talker. I usually don’t have problems expressing myself. In fact I could never successfully give the silent treatment to anyone because that would be more of a punishment for me than for the person I was trying to punish.

I don’t think I could ever run out of things to say.

Now someone like me needs to be married to someone who is the opposite of me. Which thankfully Keith is. He is more content to listen to whatever I have to say than to actually talk himself. Not that he’s a recluse (far from it) but he just isn’t a big yapper like me.

And since I am such a talker I am sure you can imagine the names I have been called. The one that sticks out in my mind is “Big Mouth”. Shocker. So imagine my surprise when to my delight my dentist actually told me I have a very small mouth. I think Keith laughed for a solid 5 minutes when I told him this.

But then Keith, always the fitness trainer at heart, came up with the theory that since my mouth is probably the most active of all my body parts it is burning the most calories (for its size) and therefore should be the smallest part of my body.

He. Is. So. Funny. Like sooooooo funny. I wonder if I could get my ass talking. Heh.

I have really tried to reign my talking in especially when I feel like I am talking waaaaay too much (ahem bookclub) but it never seems to stick. What can I say…I am a talker at heart. Oh and then there are those times when I hear my own voice on a recording and what to die.

Do I really sound like that?! All high-pitched and squeaky?

Once again this is confirmed by Keith.

But even that isn’t enough to keep me silent. I think being an Avox (hello Hunger Games) would probably be my worst nightmare. Seriously!!! That’s the part of the book that gave me the heeby jeebies!

I have some very talkative friends and when we get together…oh man…watch out! We have so much fun. Too bad talking isn’t an Olympic sport, me and my girlfriends could be in serious medal contention.

I am in awe of people who can just be silent. How do you do it?!

No wait don’t tell me. I don’t want to learn! 😉

Are you a talker? Or are you one of the quiet ones??

I am definitely the talker between my boyfriend and I. I get it from my mom. She is the energizer bunny when it comes to talking… and her dentist told her the same thing once. My dad said they were probably being nice.

I’m on the quieter side, especially if I’m in a group and don’t really know anyone.

When I first meet people on a personal basis, I’m a little on the quiet side and then I get going with the verbal diarrhea once I get to know you. Work is different though. I don’t do the shy thing then at all.

I’m on the quieter side until you get to know me, or until I’ve had a few drinks.

I’m a quiet one – partially attributed to being the youngest in a large family, so I always sat back and observed. It’s how I learn and feel my way around people. If you get to know me though, I love to talk and am never what people expect (in a good way). My thought – use your love of speaking to engage the quiet ones, we really do enjoy it. 🙂 It takes all kinds.

I am such a talker! I can’t even imagine if we got together!!

And…I have an opposite dentist story….when I went to get my braces put on, my orthodontist told me I have a physically big mouth and that’s why my TMJ is so bad. Lee and my parents definitely didn’t dispute it!

I am totally the talker. My husband is the quiet one. He always says “Well other people like to talk, and so I let them. I just listen.” Thank goodness for him, since not only am I a talker, but so is his dad and his best friend. I know when he’s on the phone with his friend, because all I hear are little laughs every now and then.

I never shut up. As a going away present from my last job, my boss bought me a giant stuffed ape because as she told my current boss, “Leah would talk to an ape if it had ears.”

I’m a quiet one. I love to be with talkative ones though, I genuinely enjoy listening!

I think you already know the answer for me on this one. 🙂 I agree though that there are times I TRY to be quiet more to let other people talk, and it is SO hard!

And this is why we’ve been friends for 15 years. 😉

oh yea, I’m a yapper!!! I love talking! I could do it all day!! And yes, sometimes I feel like I am talking way too much and not listening or asking enough questions…and then I remember that I don’t care because I WANT to talk a lot!!! I have so much to say!

Yup, I’m a major league talker, I come from a long line of mjt. Bob is not unlike Keith when it comes to being a good listener. Even when I’m not actually talking, I still talk in my head
