in and out of love
I have been reading blogs for years. I have a handful of old faithful blogs that I have been reading for almost 4 years. And I think that I am not alone when I say that I have fallen in and out of love with certain blogs over that time period.
Sometimes I like some blogs more than others because I am better able to relate to them at the time. Sometimes blogs make me angry or jealous and I can’t follow down the path they are going.
And sometimes I feel like blogs are like soap operas. Even when you stop reading for a week, 2 weeks or even a few months you can usually catch right back up with the blogger’s life in about 5 minutes. I am not complaining…I like it like that. There’s a reason soaps are so popular!
Sometimes I get confused what people see in certain blogs and what the appeal is? But we are all different so I guess that is what makes the world fo round.
The point is blogging is such a fun way to meet friends, get recipes, workouts and life advice. I have learned so much while at the same time I don’t agree with everything I read. Just think 10 years ago people were like blogs? What is a blog? ha!
As a blog reader, do you fall in and out of love with certain blogs? I swear it is like a relationship! ha!
It IS like a relationship! Sometimes blogs I love go in different directions or grow and change in a way that I can’t relate too. It’s ok, everyone changes in time but sometimes I’m no longer up for the ride.
Select blogs allow me to connect to the writer so much as a “character” that no matter where the story goes I am invested.
My google reader is like the town bicycle. Everybody gets a ride 🙂
But seriously, I add people if I read something I even like a little and then give them a few posts to convince me if I want to keep them on or not, and there are people I’ve added, deleted, added, etc so many times now I don’t know if I like them or hate them. But I think that’s the great thing about blogging, it allows you to be “break up” with people and they never even know it!
In everything there is a season. Some blogs are great for a lifetime while others are kind of a passing fad. It can be hard to keep up a high level of writing for a long time too so people will lose and gain readers over time.
I agree! There are certain blogs that I have subscribed to, unsubscribed from, and now they are added back on my list!
I totally agree with you. Sometimes blogs start heading in a direction that I can’t relate to and, while I’ll check back periodically, I don’t read them every day. There are so many great blogs out there and it’s not necessary to read a blog that doesn’t appeal to you ‘just because’.
Oh my google reader is constantly changing. I have different levels of categories. My “must reads” and my “if I’m bored, take a look” categories. and they are always changing. I love discovering new blogs, and some, like you said you kind of grow out of and you don’t relate to anymore. Recently I found I was reading some that made me angry every day, and I realized that I need to stop reading them!
It’s funny that you say 10 years ago, tho that may be true, but 9 years ago me and my freshman college roommate had a blog! It only lasted one semester. It was on live journal, which was like the only platform then. But its hilarious to read it now and remember people or drama we would have otherwise forgotten!
I feel like there are blogs I love and will always read. But there are others, that I’m really confused about. I don’t like blogs who get so repetitive that I get no real content value or even enjoyment out of. So I’ll unsubscribe, but the creeper in me visits a few months later and then I’ll enjoy them again. It’s up and down. lol
I have such a wide variety of blogs I read makes me feel like a well traveled old soul..
yes some I have read for many moons, others for 2 weeks..I now have this new blog here so let us see where the road takes me..
There are definitely some blogs that I think I will always read, because the people behind them are so great. Then there are the ones I come across and wonder why people find them interesting at all. But that’s the great thing about blogging, everyone is different.
I agree. It was a lightbulb moment for me (I’m not so smart) when I realized I should just stop reading the blogs that made me mad/annoyed/jealous. There is great freedom in un-following blogs that don’t inspire or entertain you.
I also wonder about the popularity of some blogs.
Yes, I totally go through phases with blogs. Like you, there are a handful that I have ALWAYS read and would feel weird without reading it every day, but there are some that I also wonder why get so popular…to each his (her) own, I suppose. 🙂
I definitely have blogs i used to love but now have no interest in and then some that used to be meh to me but now are my faves, This post is so true! And I agree on wondering what the heck with a few popular blogs.
Haha- this is SO true!!
I do love blogs, and I do reading them. Some I have had to kind of ‘sort out’ of my daily reading, but others I just keeping reading & I’m not sure why…they just kind of grab my attention. & Then there are others that I truly enjoy reading or feel inspired by.
I also like reading them because I feel like I ‘know’ the blogger..and little things make me think of them- like for instance..I just heard Peyton will be released & INSTANTLY thought of you. Hope you are hanging in there 😦
Oh Peyton…my heart hurts! 😦
I want to thank you for your comment on my post earlier ; )
I also feel the same way about blogs, some I read when I first started blogging I no longer have interest in. I like blogs that are positive and where I can tell the person is really genuine and not just blogging for the money or perks.
You don’t go in my blog roll until I’m sure I’m ready to commit to a relationship. 🙂
