i believe in vitamin e

July 11, 2011

Have you ever heard that rubbing Vitamin E cream on a scar will help it fade? According to this NY Times article is doesn’t help at all and is actually an overrated remedy sometimes even making the scarring worse.  But I am here to tell you that for me personally I totally believe in the power of Vitamin E!  When I was a kid I had a bad accident involving a swing set pole. My grandpa was putting it together for me and I managed to run into one of the ends of one of the poles slicing my right cheek darn near off. I had to have surgery with stitches (inside and out) to put my little 3-year-old face back together again. And I had quite a scar. A deep red scar that went from my eye to my lip.  But my parents were religious about keeping it slathered in Vitamin E cream all the time. For about a year all the pictures of me look like this:

And I am here to tell you that that nasty scar today looks pretty darn good! I don’t really notice it anymore because I have seen it my entire life but I would be willing to bet that most people, while they may notice it, would say it doesn’t jump right out at them. It is not red, it’s smooth and it is substantially smaller. Here I am today…..

Pretty good, no? So I am a big believer in Vitamin E cream! Do you have a natural remedy that people claim doesn’t work but you have personal proof that it does?

My mom SWEARS by Vitamin E! She’s even been known to break open a tablet and just rub the gel right on her face!

This post would do her proud 🙂

My mom loves that stuff too haha! When we were growing up and any of us had anything wrong we knew mom would come right back with some vitamin E oil! Also Aloe Vera was a commonly used treatment around our house. 🙂

I completely believe in vitamin E…with 4 boys in my house we have a big bottle 😉 I think natural remedies totally work. Gov’t {media} like to say otherwise because they don’t make $ off of it…they promote the pharm companies. {I could get on a soap box, but won’t hahaha} =)
Your scar is not noticeable…at least not in that pic…I wouldn’t have spotted it!

Oh I totally think Vitamin E works. When we bought my horse, he had a scar over his left eye and no hair grew there. We put Vitamin E oil on it and the scar disappeared and all his hair grew back. Its amazing stuff.

I’ve been using vitamin E for scars and burns my whole life…my mom taught me that trick. It definitely works! 🙂

haha how interesting is this?! I was just thinking about this the other day because I totally believe in it too! Sometimes I wonder, but now I do even more haha. I had some light colored rash on my face (maybe from the weather?) the other day and slept with vitamin E on it and the next day it was wayyyy better. Note that the rash was actually going for like 2 days already.

I’ve been using Vitamin E nightly on my little guy to hopefully minimize a scar from a ‘sister’s tooth meets brother’s forehead’ accident we had on Valentine’s Day (of all days). I think it’s helping quite a bit.
