working out with you is so much more fun

July 6, 2011

99% of the time Keith and I do not work out together. Keith’s first session at the gym starts at 5:30am every morning and I usually don’t start my workout until closer to 7:00am. He trains straight through the morning and usually gets his workout in right before lunch. So on Sunday when Keith asked me if I wanted to work out together I jumped at the chance. I like working out with him versus him training me because it is way more fun to be in pain with someone else! haha!

I asked him what we were going to do be doing and he said we were doing the “25 reps” workout! I love that workout! It is so much fun! For a shorter (30 minute) workout you pick 12-15 exercises and do 25 reps for each one. For a longer workout (60 minutes) you pick 24-25 exercises and do 25 reps for each one. I like this workout because you never do the same thing twice, it gets your heart rate up, and you push some serious weight! Below are the 25 exercies we chose but you can choose anything! It is entirely up to you. So use this one as a guide and then you can change it up to add in some of your favorites! (I will give you the weights I used…Keith did anywhere from 2x to 3x the weight I used)

Remember: everything is 25 reps

  1. DB Chest Press (on stability ball) (I used 20 lb DB’s in each arm)
  2. Diver Crunches
  3. Reverse Lunges (25 each leg) (I held 15 lb DB’s)
  4. TRX Flat Body Pulls
  5. Supermans
  6. Shoulder Push-ups
  7. Bicep Bar Curl (I used the 20 lb curvy bar with 5 lb plates on each side)
  8. TRX Mountain Climbers (50 total…25 each leg)
  9. Medicine Ball Squats
  10. Chest Flyes (on stability ball) (I used 15 lb DB’s in each arm)
  11. Reverse Flyes (I used 15 lb DB’s in each arm)
  12. Reverse Crunches
  13. Kettlebell Snatches (25 each arm) (I used the 18lb KB)
  14. Plei Squats holding 1 DB (I used a 25lb DB)
  15. Straight Leg Hanging Abs
  16. Skull Crushers (I used 15 lb DB’s in each arm)
  17. Bosu Lunges (25 eacg leg) (body weight)
  18. Atomic Pushups
  19. 60 Second Holding Wall Squat
  20. Bird Dogs (25 each side)
  21. Bridges
  22. Upright Rows (I used 15 lb DB’s)
  23. Roll Outs
  24. 1 DB Deadlift (I used a 30 lb DB)

And you’re D-O-N-E! Another good workout in the bag! 🙂

I’m definitely going to try this. It will help me from getting bored at the gym. I love working out with my boyfriend. We went for a run together Monday and it made me push myself because he is faster than me. Have a good day!

I like having a workout partner every once in a while. It makes the same old routine a little more exciting. Plus, you definitely can push each other. All good things! 🙂

I love working out with my hubby. 🙂

You are such a badass — and I’m glad you guys worked out together!

I had a friend in college that I loved to work out with — we’d make up circuits in her basement (she had lots of equipment already) and we’d have such a fun time.

HAHA! Not really…but thanks! It looks like a lot all written out like that but it doesn’t take that long to complete.

I agree – I always love when Mike and I get to go to the gym together. Or even just go for a run together – for some reason it’s just so much more enjoyable (plus then I don’t feel like I’m missing out on time I COULD be spending with him!)

Also agreed – working out with someone else is always more fun and I tend to push myself harder (need to work on that!). This looks like a short-er, fun workout, and I am really trying to incorporate more strength and lifting!

ARE YOU EXHAUSTED!?!?! That is quite the workout!!

Yikes – that sounds HARD!! I think for something like that I’d enjoy having a workout partner. I like working out alone when it comes to running and most cardio really. But I think having someone there to push me would be good too.

Oh I love Keith’s workouts. And way WAY better training WITH him. So fun! (yes, I think working out is fun.. although I’m sure you think that too!)

I wish I had someone to work out with.. hmmm… more reason to go to Austin!

Too bad I don’t know what a lot of those exercises are – ha! The last 2 times we’ve been to CS we stay at a house. We have 2 friends (brothers) that both went to A&M and their parents bought a house there as their ‘game day’ house. (It’s nicer than our real house.) That’s where we stay. It is straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog!

    Seriously? I would die. You’re a bad-a. The end.

Damn girl, you are a MACHINE!!!!

That seems like a really intense workout, but much more enjoyable when you’re with your guy! I always like running w/ Travis rather than w/o. We push each other more.

What a cool idea, I’m definitely going to try that!
