want to watch a movie?

May 12, 2011

Day 24 of the 30 day challenge is to tell you my favorite movie and what it is about. My favorite movie…wow…that is hard. There is no way I am going to be able to pick one. So why don’t we do my top 5. Does that work for you? (she asks expecting an answer) 🙂

1. Under The Tuscan Sun: while on vacation, a just-divorced writer buys a villa in Tuscany on a whim, hoping it will be the start of a change for the better in her life. I loved this movie because it became a motivator for me to start my life over when things were rough. I loved how this woman was strong and independent and was able to pick her life up when everything seemed hopeless.

2. Where The Heart Is: a pregnant 17-year-old rebuilds her life after being abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma. Love this movie! I also read the book and both are excellent. Just a movie about a girl with seemingly no future who refuses to give up and through it all finally realizes she deserves good things to happen to her.

3. Secret Window: A writer is accused for plagiarism by a strange man, who then starts haunting him for “justice.” This movie is really good with an awesome twist. It is a thriller and Johnny Depp is awesome! This is about scary as I get. ha!

4. The Family Stone: An uptight, conservative, businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family’s annual Christmas celebration and finds that she’s a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life. This movie is just such a good movie about family, love and what is really important in life.

5. Titanic: A boy and girl from differing social backgrounds meet during the ill-fated maiden voyage of RMS Titanic. I know I said I couldn’t pick a favorite but if push came to shove this would probably be the one I would choose. This, to me, is the best love story of all time while still telling the story of a tragic accident that shook the world.

I love Secret Window and The Family Stone! (Titanic is good too) Thanks for reminding me to put Secret Window in my Netflix queue — haven’t seen that one in a long time!

My favorite movie is Amelie — the story is so sweet!

    • May 12, 2011 11:07 am

I have never heard of Amelie…I am going to have to check that out!

I honestly can’t narrow it down to a favorite! Can I say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the new one with Johnny Depp)? Haha! I do, however, find myself sucked into Titanic every time I catch it on TV! My mom swears by Secret Window…she is obsessed with it but I have never seen it! I think now I have to! 🙂

Where the Heart Is is SUCH a good movie. I love that one.
Wedding Singer is up there on my list too. Cant get enough of it.

I haven’t seen any of these! Yes, I know, I haven’t seen the titanic yet – I’m lame. I’m not even sure if I’ve heard of any of the others. I’ve got my favorite movies here – http://www.alisacooks.com/alisas-favorites/ – but I have to add The Fighter and Kings Speech to that. I think those two movies were very well done this past year.

I BALLED during family stone! Seriously, I was a mess mostly because it hit so close to home.

Oh my goodness, I can’t tell you how much I love Titanic. Favorite movie of all time. Love, love, love this list and would love even more to get together and watch ’em with you, Kell!

I know! I can totally watch the entire 3 hour movie and it feels like 1/2 that amount of time.

I really don’t have many favorite movies. I guess I would have to say the Notebook and Silence of the Lambs?

    • May 12, 2011 11:11 am

Haha…I would have never picked you as a Silence of the Lambs lover! Oh and The Notebook…how could I forget that one??!

Dude, you are a total cheeseball, I love it! I’ve never seen Titanic, but The Family Stone? I watched it expecting a comedy. Needless to say, it wasn’t what I was expecting.

Have you read Under the Tuscan Sun? Fabulous book.

    • May 12, 2011 11:11 am

I haven’t! The books are ALWAYS better so I am going to look for that at the Library!

Omg… I LOVED The Family Stone. So many people don’t get it… but I love just how amusing it is. 🙂

  11. May 12, 2011 8:13 pm

    Ahhh! LOVE the family stone!!
I haven’t seen under the tuscan sun yet, but now I have to 🙂
My favorite is Something’s Gotta Give & I CANNOT believe it’s someone else’s too- I see Paula wrote it above- so funny I have NEVER heard of someone else saying that!!!! So cool 🙂
Craig actually laughs at me about watching it so much- usually I watch it about once a week- haha 😀 It’s my feel good movie!

  12. May 12, 2011 9:06 pm

Oh my gosh – I love movies (and TV) 😉 – I haven’t seen “The Secret Window” in years – that was good (I could actually watch it by myself). The Family Stone is a tear-jerker.

Um…Tangled was so cute ;). Love “The Money Pit” (Tom Hanks – classic!), National Lampoon’s Xmas Vacation (yes that counts!), Speed (Keanu Reeves in a uniform – yes please!)…and maybe even Eat Pray Love (sorry, anyone eating pizza in Italy gets my vote!).

    Love the new look!

  13. May 12, 2011 10:39 pm

oh what a great idea! I loved Under the Tuscan Sun as well it was like the precursor to Eat, Pray, Love which I also enjoyed.

My favorite movie is “Man On Fire” Starring Denzel Washington as a down and out body guard for a little girl (Dakota Fanning) in Mexico City. I can’t quite explain but I simply love the movie especially Denzel and the cinematography. I may have seen it 10 times!
