dear dad
Dear Dad,
For most of my life I remember being a “Daddy’s girl” always wanting to do the things that you did. Watching football and screaming alongside you, eating popcorn while Capitan America hosted the late night vampire movies, or climbing onto your shoulders in the pool begging for you to throw me into the water.
You would blow dry my hair every night after my bath and yell at me to get back into my room when I snuck into Josh’s for extra post-bedtime playtime. Or the time when you dropped me off for a birthday party with a mustache and came back two hours later with it gone.
You are the man who encouraged me in sports and made me believe in myself. The man whose face I needed to see in the stands during my track meets to not feel as nervous; the man who would get just as excited when I broke a record as I did.

You’re the man you let me go to Texas A&M instead of your alma mater, The University of Texas, therefore changing the dynamic of Thanksgiving in our house forever.
You’re the man who proudly gave me away and looked touched when I didn’t give up my name, your name completely. A marriage that came after
you helped me pick up the pieces of mistakes once made.
You’re the Dad who gets right in and plays pool volleyball with the best of them. And who hosts the epic pool bashes every year.
You’re the man who came to cheer my on during my marathon and looked as proud when I finished as if I had just won an Olympic gold medal.
You’re the man who gives the BEST Chanukah presents. Ever.

So, Happy Father’s Day, Dad!
Love,
Your Little Girl (and biggest fan!)

workouts and food
A few house keeping items first off:
- I am so glad everyone enjoyed my letter to 15-year-old me yesterday. It was fun and thought-provoking to write. I think everyone should at some point do a post like that. It really makes you think! Some of those lessons even still apply today. It amazes me that it doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was 15. Where does time go?! Goodness.
- I also wanted to tell you that I know a lot of you have commented and emailed me about our chickens! I promise to write a full post on this over the weekend. So look for that next week. They are such a hoot and a lot of fun! Plus I have learned a lot in the process.
I know it’s been a while since I shared a workout with you. A little background quickly, my husband is a personal trainer and has been for 10 years. So he is constantly writing me programs and then I share them with you. Such a win/win situation, right? Anyway, today’s was a good one!
- Kettlebell clean squat & press: 12 each side
- Ball crunches: 20
- Push-ups (feet up on a chair): 20
- Kettlebell snatch & overhead lunge: 12 each side
- Bicycle crunches: 50
- Cobras: 20
- REPEAT 4 TIMES
- Kettlebell alternating swings: 20 each
- Low plank: hold for 60 seconds
- Chair step-up with a med. ball rotation: 12 each side
- Side plank with a dumbbell press: 12 each side
- Burpees: 15
- Chair knee taps: 20
- REPEAT 4 TIMES
Okay so my notes: This was TOUGH so of course I loved it! 🙂 But this entire workout took me about 75 minutes so to make it only an hour in length just repeat the sets 3 times. Keith did this with his clients and depending on their individual needs they either repeated the sets 2 or 3 times. So just listen to your body and do what’s best for you. This is all about you and you can make it as hard as you like!
Another thing I want to share is my recent favorite lunch! It is a salad but it is delicious!! Into the mix goes:
- mixed greens
- cherry tomatoes (from my garden)
- fresh zucchini (from my garden)
- avocado
- carrots
- grilled chicken, sliced
- olive oil
- balsamic vinegar
- over easy egg <—-secret ingredient! The egg oozes all into the salad and it is AWESOME!
How do you like your eggs? I am (obviously) an over-easy (heavy on the easy) kinda girl!
