workouts and food

A few house keeping items first off:

  • I am so glad everyone enjoyed my letter to 15-year-old me yesterday. It was fun and thought-provoking to write. I think everyone should at some point do a post like that. It really makes you think! Some of those lessons even still apply today. It amazes me that it doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was 15. Where does time go?! Goodness.
  • I also wanted to tell you that I know a lot of you have commented and emailed me about our chickens! I promise to write a full post on this over the weekend. So look for that next week. They are such a hoot and a lot of fun! Plus I have learned a lot in the process.

I know it’s been a while since I shared a workout with you. A little background quickly, my husband is a personal trainer and has been for 10 years. So he is constantly writing me programs and then I share them with you. Such a win/win situation, right? Anyway, today’s was a good one!

  • Kettlebell clean squat & press: 12 each side
  • Ball crunches: 20
  • Push-ups (feet up on a chair): 20
  • Kettlebell snatch & overhead lunge: 12 each side
  • Bicycle crunches: 50
  • Cobras: 20
  • REPEAT 4 TIMES
  • Kettlebell alternating swings: 20 each
  • Low plank: hold for 60 seconds
  • Chair step-up with a med. ball rotation: 12 each side
  • Side plank with a dumbbell press: 12 each side
  • Burpees: 15
  • Chair knee taps: 20
  • REPEAT 4 TIMES

Okay so my notes: This was TOUGH so of course I loved it! 🙂 But this entire workout took me about 75 minutes so to make it only an hour in length just repeat the sets 3 times. Keith did this with his clients and depending on their individual needs they either repeated the sets 2 or 3 times. So just listen to your body and do what’s best for you. This is all about you and you can make it as hard as you like!

Another thing I want to share is my recent favorite lunch! It is a salad but it is delicious!! Into the mix goes:

  • mixed greens
  • cherry tomatoes (from my garden)
  • fresh zucchini (from my garden)
  • avocado
  • carrots
  • grilled chicken, sliced
  • olive oil
  • balsamic vinegar
  • over easy egg <—-secret ingredient! The egg oozes all into the salad and it is AWESOME!

How do you like your eggs? I am (obviously) an over-easy (heavy on the easy) kinda girl!

Oh my gosh that salad looks so good. I love eggs so I will pretty much eat them any way they come. Over easy, sunny side up, scrambled, fried, hard boiled – in fact, most weeks I eat them in all those forms 🙂

I too love over easy eggs — the yolk is the best part! Dumb question — are your dishes from Pier 1? I worked there in college and that design looks familiar 🙂

    That workout sound intense!!! Wow.

Your salad looks delish…I have never, ever conisdered adding in an egg to my salads, but I have to admit, it does not look too bad.

I have never ever considered adding an egg to my salad, but I must admit it looks like something I would want to try. Your workouts look well planned and awesome!

An easy egg on a salad?!? I’m intrigued and I’m going to have to give that a try! I’ve only ever had the hard-boiled ones on the leafy greens.

I like mine scrambled…I used to hate eggs so this is a step in the right direction for me, hehe 🙂

I think you should write a letter to your 45 year-old-self now.

Keith should write me a program 🙂 THAT would be awesome!

I used to hate eggs. Now, I love them. Especially baked on pizza… or salad! Must try that.

I love Keith’s workouts, too. He definitely knows what he’s doing. All the ones you’ve had me try have been great! I WISH I had access to a gym tomorrow- I’d totally rock that one. I may have to modify to do at home. 😉 (thanks, Keith!)
