it’s gonna be a long day

March 20, 2012

The weather in ATX right now is iffy. It was thundering, lightening, hailing and pouring all night long. We managed to get our entire month’s worth of rainfall last night.

Now I know it could have been a lot worse. There were tornadoes spotted in the area and several thousand people lost power and still have no power. But it was enough to keep worry wart Kelly awake most of the night freakishly checking her weather app.

Remember yesterday when I listed my irrational fear? I should probably add weather to that list. Or heck we might as well add anything that I don’t have complete control over. So you know….everything. Heh.

What I really want this morning is good coffee and these.  But I am really getting water and oatmeal. Are we sure it isn’t Monday?

Also, I have a feeling today I am going to have some tired (read: cranky) 5th graders.

It’s gonna be a long day.

political rant

March 16, 2012

I am warning you up front that this is going to be a political rant. I will in no way be offended if you don’t read it. But I feel like I need to purge this from my chest.

I feel like, as a woman, we are taking GIANT steps backwards.

The government wants to make birth control pills harder to obtain via insurance companies and make abortion illegal.

So the government wants it to make it harder for insurance companies to cover birth control pills BUT has no problem with insurance companies picking up the tab for Viagra. Really?

Then after taking away our most reliable form of birth control they want to make sure if we do get pregnant we have no options but to carry the baby to term.

Here’s the thing and Let me make that quite clear:  I DO NOT support abortion as a means of birth control. But I do support a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body.

I think the woman who was raped has the right to choose.

I believe the family member facing to incest has the right to choose.

I believe the woman whose husband just lost his job and they are trying to raise three kids already has the right to choose.

The right to choose what to do with their own body. The right to take birth control pills and the right to an abortion if that is what is right for her.

It’s funny how NO ONE in the government is trying to tell a MAN what he can do with his body. Just women. It is dominance and it isn’t right.

Some people believe it is a religious issue. And to that I say it still should not be a government issue. Let a woman and her God work that out. We live in a country which is “supposedly” not influenced by any religion. (I write that sentence loosely as even though America is intended to be non-secular is very much is not) So if this is a religious issue then it belongs with the Church not the government.

I personally would struggle with having abortion. I am not sure I could ever do it and I don’t ever want to be in a position to have to make that choice. However, I do think that you can not take away a woman’s right to protect herself against pregnancy, while at the same time providing men with drugs to enhance sexual desire and then take away any right for a woman to choose what she wants to do with an unwanted pregnancy.

Plus with all the other problems we are facing in this world right now, I find it hard to believe that this is even an issue our government spends time on!

I hesitated to post this because I feel like it is a sensitive subject but it is how I feel. If you wish to leave a comment please be respectful.

my bff is making a come back

March 15, 2012

Earlier this week Anna sent me a quick message to tell me our girl, Keri Russell, had landed a new television role.

Turns out Anna was RIGHT! Keri Russell has landed the lead role in the FX spy show, The Americans.

Plot: the show “centers on two KGB spies posing as a married American couple in the suburbs of Washington DC in the 1980s. The drama in the show comes not only from the spy aspect, but also from the fact that the couple has two children who are unaware of their parents’ true identities. Their relationship grows into a passionate and genuine relationship, but they’re constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the “intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control.”

To say that I am excited would be the biggest understatement of the year. Ever since Felicity I have been a huge fan of hers.

HUGE.

And I know if we would be best friends if we ever met in person.

I know I technically don’t need another show in my rotation but I will make the room. It’s KERI RUSSELL!!

Obviously I am a tad excited.

What do you think it is the all time greatest TV show?

I am going with Felicity….I know…Shocker.
