olympic ending

August 13, 2012

I am so sad that the Olympics are over. Seriously. Sad. I love the Olympics. I love competition. I love the back stories. I love the pride that comes with competing for your country.

I think the Olympics are so special. I will always love them. I will always think they are spectacular.

The highlight moment for me was watching Keri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor win their third (and final) olympic gold medal. I teared up a little when they were giving their post-win interview on the side of the court. It was so special. I got to see them live when they came to Austin on tour back in 2004. I have followed them ever since.

Another top highlight for me was watching Michael Phelps. I just love him. I think he is such a talented athlete and I was rooting for him to make history. I am so glad he did. I can not image how it must feel to be the world’s most successful Olympian OF.ALL.TIME.

I was also excited to see Sandra Richards-Ross to win the 400 meter dash. Isn’t her reaction priceless? I can’t imagine what being the best in the world in one event would feel like. She waited four years for this moment after taking silver in Beijing. I can only imagine that I would react as she did.

I also loved witnessing the special moments between athletes. They all supported one another. They all, while competing, still have a deep respect for their competitors and it was very inspiring. It makes me keep the faith in the goodness of people. Loved this moment:

And let’s not forget the first Saudi Arabian woman who competed. She may not have won, but she was there. That is huge. HUGE. I was proud for her. As a woman, I was happy. What a step forward for that country!

I’m sad. Really sad. If I was an Olympian I think I would be a little depressed. It’s over and now we have another four years to wait. Sigh.

But at least football season is on the horizon. C’mon Peyton…make it better for me! 😉

What was the highlight of the Olympics for you?

new to me

August 10, 2012

Soooooo remember a few days ago I said that Keith’s car had died over the weekend?

Well.

Turns out it was the radiator and we fixed it for less than $300. My husband is very car savvy and we have a really good mechanic whom we trust. So it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.

But it was also eye-opening. Neither Keith nor myself have had car payments for a looooong time now. I haven’t had one for 4 years and Keith hasn’t had one for 2. Both of our cars have 100,000+ miles on them. The time is coming where we are going to need to start thinking about getting at least one newer car for the reliability factor.

After much discussing we decided to get ME the new car. Keith would take my current car and I was going to get something new. Then in a year or so we will get Keith something new.

So after some searching, a great (can’t pass it up) deal, I am now th proud of owner of a new (to me) car!

Oh and also?

It’s a HYRBID!

So excited! I have been wanting a hybrid for so long now. It appeals to my environmentalist personality and I love the 40-45 miles to the gallon factor.

I am not going to tell you what the car is nor post a picture…hello…this is the internet. Posting a picture of my car (make and model) just seems a little unsafe. You understand.

But a happy dance is ensuing!

**total side note, but if you live in the Austin area and want to know where we got the car and who we dealt with let me know. I could not recommend this place enough**

So I am going to spend the weekend breaking in my new ride!!! What about you?

Any weekend plans?

a love note

Dear Keith,

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you for supporting me.

Thank you for taking care of me.

You challenge me to be a better person. You change my attitude when it needs changing. You make me see how unbelievably lucky I am.

The past year has been one of the hardest we’ve had.

But you have shown me that:

I am enough.

I do enough.

We are enough.

You have let me know that we are a strong twosome and should it always be that way we will be okay. We will be happy. We will be better people for loving each other.

Before all the other things, I want to be first and foremost your wife.

I will always love you. I will always need you. I will always feel blessed and completely undeserving to have you.

You are my rock. You are my life.

I’ll love you forever.

And then I will love you some more.

-Kel

what A weekend

August 6, 2012

Goodness. It was a weekend. We were busy but fortunately I still had time to enjoy myself.

On Saturday, Keith and I went rock climbing at a local rock gym. It was both of our first times and it was really fun but a lot more challenging than either of us anticipated. Props to all you rock climbers out there!!

We also celebrated my Mama’s birthday (a few days early) at a fancy shamcy restaurant. I got to get all gussied up with my lovah! I also got to eat a fancy meal. Duck anyone?

We had a slight mishap with Keith’s car. It died. Like started smoking and died. We knew it was coming but it went out with a much bigger bang than either of us expected. Oh Infiniti, you lived a good life but I think it is time we moved on. So we went and looked at cars this weekend which was surprisingly fun! I think we may have found something to test drive this week. Thankfully my Dad has more than one vehicle and it letting us borrow. That helps us not feel so rushed and allows us to make a smart decision we are both comfortable with. #Score.

I woke up Sunday morning pretty much determined to eat pancakes. Enter: Pamela’s Gluten Free Pancake Mix. Oh my heart. We love that stuff. How perfect do these look? I assure you they tasted just as perfect. (Hint: make them with coconut oil. Trust me)

Of course lots of Olympic watching took place. That is a given. It is like you can see any sport you want at any time! We watched a lot of volleyball and a lot of track. Couldn’t ask for more in my opinion. Twas perfecto!

I got my day started this morning with body combat (favorite class evvvvver) and a nice half hour walk with my Bella girl. Now I am heading out for a training all day. I hope everyone has a great Monday. Catch you laters!

What was the highlight of your weekend?
