new to me
Soooooo remember a few days ago I said that Keith’s car had died over the weekend?
Well.
Turns out it was the radiator and we fixed it for less than $300. My husband is very car savvy and we have a really good mechanic whom we trust. So it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.
But it was also eye-opening. Neither Keith nor myself have had car payments for a looooong time now. I haven’t had one for 4 years and Keith hasn’t had one for 2. Both of our cars have 100,000+ miles on them. The time is coming where we are going to need to start thinking about getting at least one newer car for the reliability factor.
After much discussing we decided to get ME the new car. Keith would take my current car and I was going to get something new. Then in a year or so we will get Keith something new.
So after some searching, a great (can’t pass it up) deal, I am now th proud of owner of a new (to me) car!
Oh and also?
It’s a HYRBID!
So excited! I have been wanting a hybrid for so long now. It appeals to my environmentalist personality and I love the 40-45 miles to the gallon factor.
I am not going to tell you what the car is nor post a picture…hello…this is the internet. Posting a picture of my car (make and model) just seems a little unsafe. You understand.
But a happy dance is ensuing!
**total side note, but if you live in the Austin area and want to know where we got the car and who we dealt with let me know. I could not recommend this place enough**
So I am going to spend the weekend breaking in my new ride!!! What about you?
Any weekend plans?
My car is 11 years old but I just don’t want a car payment again!! I am hoping to drive it into the ground.
This is awesome news! Enjoy your new car! My vehicle just hit 181,000 the other day–yikes!
Mine had 115,000 and Keith’s had 160,000 so we got rid of his and he is keeping mine. It is just so hard to give up a good car that doesn’t have a payment!
That is SOOO exciting! My car was getting the AC fixed last wk so I was driving a courtesy car that was brand spankin’ new and I LOVED it! We talked about trading mine in for one like it, but my car is less than 6 months from being paid off and we’ll be a no car payment family too so I’m good for now. Have fun cruisin’ in your earth friendly car;)
I’ve had my Prius for almost 6 years now, it’s got almost 97000 miles on it and I still love it. You’ll love the gas mileage! Congrats on the new purchase!
Hooray for a new car!! How exciting 🙂
WOOHOO! A new car is always exciting 🙂 Enjoy breaking in your new vehicle! & YAY for saving on gas $$, that is ALWAYS a plus!
Fun! My husband and I are looking into getting at least one new car too…both of ours are starting to poop out as well–they’re just not very reliable, which is never a good thing. We also haven’t needed to make car payments in years so it’ll definitely be a change!
Totally. Not wanting a car payment is what has made us hold out for so long!
that’s awesome! my husband is dying for a hybrid! good luck with it!
I looooooove it! It drives so smooth and quiet!
That is awesome!! I’ve wanted a hybrid for ages, but I just cant afford one yet. One day it will happen though.
Text me a picture! Totally forgot to call you last night, got flustered trying to find a cab, was so hungry almost barfed in a cab once I got one. Just got to the hotel and scarfed food and then was in a food coma. Ha!
If you like the hybrid for the gas mileage or the look or anything else that’s fine. But if you do research on hybrids you’ll learn they’re actually WAY worse for the environment than a regular car. Why? The battery.
Don’t mean to be a downer but it is something to note if you are an environmentalist.
Congrats on your purchase!!
Thank Laura. But I disagree. Read this article as I think it sums up the comparison between hybrid cars and traditional cars nicely. http://www.ehow.com/about_5283571_hybrid-cars-good-environment.html
Bottom line of the article: The overall effect of a hybrid on the environment will depend a lot on how you use the car. People looking to replace an existing car with a hybrid should look at driving patterns. If you drive a lot, a hybrid will be good for the environment. If you don’t drive much, buying a hybrid could actually have a negative environmental effect. If you don’t own a car and are looking to buy one, a hybrid is the best choice as it minimizes environmental effects through fuel efficiency
I cannot wait for the day that we have zero car payments! I shouldn’t complain too much because my husband has a free company car along with free gas and insurance. My car however is far from a hybrid….I maybe get 16 mpg. Sucks!!
Yay for new cars!!! Glad you found one you like so much!
So awesome you got the new one, YES!
I know! 😉
