Thanksgiving Success!

I had a lovely Thanksgiving and I hope you guys did too. We did a pot luck with Keith’s family. Everyone was in charge of bringing something and I had to bring sweet potato casserole. And when I need a dish to impress I always go to the one place that is full proof and never lets me down: Mom. Once again she delivered:

We also took some family pictures. My sweet little family. I love them!

And now I am enjoying my last day of relaxation before heading back to work tomorrow. I am SUPER excited to be going back to work. I have missed my kids! But I also loved this week of vacation. It felt so good to chill, hang out, not have any work responsibilities.

The other thing I did this week was I started seeing an acupuncturist. She is working on my fertility issues. I didn’t say anything but about a month ago I did my first round of clomid and it didn’t exactly work as well as we had hoped. As in it didn’t make me cycle. So I am trying an alternative method before I take any more synthetic drugs. I just want to try it. If it doesn’t help then I will do another (stronger) round of clomid. But acupuncture (as a whole) has an 80% success rate with fertility and it also can be used during pregnancy for preventative measures (which I obviously need). So I am trying it. Keith and I have also decided to start inquiring about adoption and start filling out paperwork. Just to get that process started because I know it can be lengthy. It feels good to have a plan. To be actively doing something, It makes me feel less broken.

I also did a lot of reading this week. Like for fun. One of my favorite authors is Joshilyn Jackson and I read her latest book, A Grown Up Kind Of Pretty.

A Grown-up Kind of Pretty (Hardcover)

As usual she did not disappoint. I loved it. I would always suggest any Joshilyn Jackson book if you ever need a good book to get lost in.

So that was my week. Lots of food, family, and books. P-E-R-F-E-C-T.

What did you do?

One more day, guys.

One.

More.

Day.

Until I get a week off for Thanksgiving break. I need it. I am ready. 🙂

I read an article the other day that the average American gains 0.8 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. My first thought was THAT’S IT?! Well hell…let’s get this eating started! Ha! No, seriously I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday because it revolves around family, friends and togetherness. I love that. Call me a cheeseball but that’s my favorite! It makes me realize how much I have to be thankful for in my life.

My kids wrote an “I’m Thankful For” narrative and it was absolutely precious. Like adorable. Some were thankful for typical kid things like video games and toys but others were truly thankful for some deep and meaningful things. If I wrote an “I’m Thankful For” narrative I know mine would probably make me cry. I spent a better part of this year being resentful, angry and just feeling really bad for myself. If I am being honest, I still have all of those emotions inside me, but I also know that I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving 2012.

And when I am having a particularly trying day all it takes is one sweet little boy to hand me this note as he leaves my class:

My heart melts. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life.

So.

Very.

Thankful.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday friends and get started on gaining that 0.8 pounds! 🙂

so…

November 9, 2012

So. The year is marching on. Thanksgiving is almost here, football is dominating my big screen and the election is finally over! No more political ads! Although at least I don’t live in a swing state…you guys were inundated, I’m sure.

My class was pretty excited about the Presidential Election. The next one won’t be until they are in 6th grade and to a second grader that sounds like an eternity away! My election week writing assignment was: “If I was President I would….” and let me tell you it was the cutest thing ever.

Evvvvver.

Some of the things my second graders would do:

  • Give everyone free ice cream
  • Pay teachers more money (think this kiddo knows the way to my heart or, better yet, my gradebook?)
  • The class was evenly split between raising taxes and lowering taxes
  • Build homes for the homeless
  • Give good speeches
  • Make good laws
  • Pick up trash and more recycling
  • Make gas cheaper
  • Help the army

I don’t know about you but I am liking these campaign platforms! Ha! I am telling you they were a blast to read. 🙂

My football season is going fantastic. The Aggies are doing much better than expected in the SEC. Whoop! And although I suspect we will probably not win against Alabama (hello #1 in the country) this weekend we are still doing great! Eat it Big 12! ha! And my professional team of choice, ahem Denver, is looking mighty fine thanks to my beloved Peyton Manning. He is just so stinkin hot good I can’t stand it. I still think it is funny that the first football player I ever had a crush on was John Elway and now he and Peyton are on the same team. It makes me deliriously happy. Um, Indy who?

Peyton Manning

Bella is as crazy as ever. We left her in the backyard one day this week (you know like a dog) and she was having no part of that. She managed to bust through our back gate and go into our front yard to spend her day. Thank goodness she didn’t run off or get hit by a car. She merely wanted to just lay in the front yard versus the back. So through the fence she went. Sheesh. I was a little shocked when I got home from work and was greeted by my (not in the backyard) puppy. Keith has started calling her knucklehead and she is starting to answer to it!! She is definitely my best girl but she can totally be a knucklehead. Totally.

And that, my friends, is my life. Ha!

Happy Sunday! How’s it going?

I’m good. I am actually sitting here drinking coffee, watching Veronica Mara reruns and eating blueberry pancakes. Now that my friends is a good morning.

News from the week:

  • Fun clothing makes me a better teacher. I swear it! 🙂

  • Phonetic Spelling is HILARIOUS! For real. Think about it. Here’s my favorite from the week: come = cum. I had to stifle several laughs when reading some writing assignments.
  • Fall came to Texas. It is about freaking time. Now if only it will last and not be 90 degrees again in 2 weeks. I love Austin, really I do, but don’t even get me started on the weather. Texas weather is as fickle as a teenage girl. For real.
  • I found my new favorite snack (or dinner) because sometimes dinner is just a bunch of snacks. #cookingfail But these little gems are freaking fantastic.

  • Bella had a milestone this week. She learned how to fetch and bring the stick BACK! Finally. Finally. Finally. But she always picks the biggest stick she can find. #knucklehead

  • Let’s see: clothing, food and Bella. Yup…that is my life.

Tell me the notables from your week!
