project 52 update

December 21, 2011

Do you remember when I started Project 52 last year?

The idea was to list out 52 things that you were going to do this coming year and for everything you failed to complete you had to donate $5 to charity.

This was my list:

  • Save more money
  • Continue to grow my local business, Healthy Living With Kelly
  • Create a website for my business
  • Try 1 new recipe a month
  • Move More
  • Be more comfortable in my own skin
  • Run some races
  • Try to start a family <—-you can read that story here
  • Volunteer
  • Go camping  <—-Grand Canyon!!
  • Smile more
  • Spend more time with my Mammaw
  • See one movie a month <—already failing on this one! $5 for charity!
  • Fix my beloved teddy bear’s paws
  • Order room service
  • Go on more dates with my husband
  • Be more confident
  • Make an effort to dress up more
  • Eat vegetarian for one week
  • Finish Body for Life
  • Go to one live sporting event
  • Be more social
  • Do more adventurous workouts
  • Be less of an impulse shopper
  • Read 3 books out loud with Keith <—- we’re 1 down!
  • Go to Wimberley Market Days
  • Take more pictures
  • Control my temper
  • Be cleaner
  • Make one bold fashion statement this year
  • Donate blood
  • Stop Fat Talk
  • Go hiking <—-leaving May 25th to spend 5 day hiking in the Grand Canyon with Lori and Katie!
  • Read two Michael Pollan’s books. <—-I am one down. I have read In Defense of Food and am halfway finished with the Omnivore’s Dilemma.
  • Be a more creative trainer
  • Make homemade cinnamon rolls
  • Finish cookbook #2
  • Remove processed food 80% from my diet
  • Use the AquaJogger
  • Make more of an effort to get together with friends
  • Be better with skin care
  • Do one spontaneous thing <—-my night in Phoenix…right Lori?
  • Clean and organize our laundry room
  • Get a tatoo
  • Be more patient
  • Recycle more and be less wasteful
  • Be happier
  • Unplug from the computer more often
  • Play on a coed sporting team
  • Be more in touch with the news and what is going on around the world outside my little bubble
  • Do a MMA Boxing workout
  • Donate $5 for every non-completed item to Bikes 4 Kids.

As you can see I did get quite a lot scratched off but I didn’t complete everything. I was 34/52 so $5 for every one I didn’t complete is $90 to charity. I wish I had done everything I said I was going to do but I am not too bothered because $90 to charity feels good.

Some of things on my list were silly (like order room service…which to note I didn’t do and I still have NEVER had room service!!) and others were  a little more serious like volunteer, donate blood and control my temper. All three of those I failed on and that makes me disappointed in myself. How hard would it have been for me to donate my blood or spend an afternoon giving my time. I should have done those things.

My temper is always going to be a work in progress I think. I get it from my Dad and he has mellowed a lot as he has gotten older so hopefully there is hope for me. The one good thing is he always knows exactly what I need to hear to calm me down. Probably because of anyone he understands my tendency to blow a fuse. 😉

I didn’t cross out ‘Stop Fat Talk’ but I did cross off ‘Be More Confident’. I definitely still participate in fat talk waaaaay more than I should but I think I have been more accepting and more confident in myself this year. So progress is being made and I am okay with that.

Overall I think Project 52 was a lot of fun and I liked having some light-hearted and more serious goals in there. It was a creative way to stay on track throughout the year but knowing that it was a win/win if I didn’t get some of the items crossed off because money was ultimately going to charity. I will probably do it again in 2012.

What do you think about something like Project 52?

such a fun idea! it’s a win if you do it and it’s even a win if you “fail” at doing it! I also have never ordered room service! that’s kind of a fun one to put on there! i can’t believe you didn’t go to a live sporting event! my bf lives and breathes sports, and goes to at least one a month and thanks to him a go to a lot (not all!) too.
It’s nice to see all of your achievements in a list like that, congrats you had a good year!

I love this idea– it seems like a win/win, even with the items you didn’t complete. Plus, you completed a LOT of them!!

That is why some of mine were silly…and things I knew I could do. I am still mad about room service though!

I am scared to do a final recap on mine…oh well! It was a fun idea, and I want to try it again next year. I will probably have some repeats of the ones I failed on this year – ha!

I did better than I thought I would. But I didn’t mind…I love JB & Sandy’s Bike 4 Kids program so I had no problem giving them my money last week!

Room service is awesome 🙂 You did a great job, actually. I’m impressed by how many were checked off. You did much better than I would have done.
