my normal isn’t your normal
I was waiting for Keith outside of a gas station. We had been walking and he wanted to run in to grab a bottle of water. There was a man waiting on his wife who was also inside and would it surprise anyone that I ended up talking to him? [I mean I am so shy and all…..] He was telling me about a great burger place that he and his wife had recently eaten at and loved.
I am always ready for a good burger recommendation.
He then, in all seriousness, said that if I wanted to really go off the beaten path I should order their sweet potato fries.
He took my shocked silence as confirmation of what he thought.
He laughed and said I know I know it sounds weird but they were delicious.
It was in that moment that I realized my normal isn’t his normal.
Sweet potato fries are pretty normal in my house and yet he thought it was an oddity that he couldn’t believe tasted good.
I wondered what other of my normal things might seem to odd to others.
- I think it is normal to sleep with a butcher knife under my bed when I am home alone for a weekend. [I am a scardy pants]
- I think it is normal to always wash my hair when I shower.
- I think it is normal to read the last chapter of a book before starting it.
- I think it is normal to say “I love you” whenever I hang up the phone after a conversation with a family member even if we have more than one phone conversation a day.
- I think it is normal to have things like almond milk, hummus, raw nuts, Fage and quinoa in my house at any given time.
- I think it is normal to like Coke over Pepsi.
- I think it is normal to put spinach in my smoothies.
- Finally I think it is normal to love coffee and hate tea.
What is something you consider normal than someone else might not?
Hahaha, I can relate to about 90 percent of your list up there! Spinach in smoothies is the best!
Is it possible that we could be sisiters? Because you just described me in your blog…Enjoy your day!
haha i think that the health blogger world kind of changed my ideas of normal. I had never heard of putting spinach or oatmeal in smoothies until i started blogging. i had never heard of quinoa, and was terrified of kale. That’s funny that he thought sweet potato fries were so unique and gourmet! They are delicious, and should become everyone’s normal! 😉
Hold on there…you read the last chapter of a book first!!?!??! ME TOO!!! People tell me I’m so strange, I ruin the book..etc. I always knew I was normal 🙂
My normal? Always always Diet Coke, Fage or Chobani 0%, bananas, advocados, hummus, Smuckers natural peanut butter, Rold Gold pretzels,So Delicious unsweetened coconut milk, Goya black beans and Fudge Graham Zone bars…no question they are staples!
Washing hair when I’m in the shower is automatic, even when I tell myself I’m not going to wash it, it just happens! I’ve slept with knives, bats and chairs under the door handle when I’m alone. Now you’ve got me thinking…what else would I consider my normal????
Great post!
I’m definitely not normal with about anything. And I hate coffee. EW. Even the 500 calories coffees at Starbucks. I’d never waste my money on it! ha! Diet coke on the other hand….
Lots of your normals are mine too. Also, I think it is normal to have my dog sleep in my bed.
I think it’s normal to not go out on a Friday night and wake up early for a long run on Saturday.
Wait, those things you mentioned AREN’T normal? Crap.
We would get along really well – our normals are really similar. Making them all the more normal…? I’m confusing myself. The point is, I like you.
I do think sweet potato fries are becoming more normal – it’s just a matter of time before the rest of the world catches up with the deliciousness of them! 🙂
One of my normals – peanut butter and greek yogurt together (i’m surprised that when I eat this people have never heard of it)
hahaha Im pretty sure nothing I do would be considered normal to the general public. I always just assume other people do the same things as me, so I’ll randomly comment on the spinach in my smoothie, or the fact that I’m wearing a pajama top to work and get the strangest looks.
Our definitions of normal are spot on! Luckily I still have roommates, but once I do get my own place before my boyfriend and I are married, I will have a butcher knife under my bed.
I love tea and hate coffee. What does that make me?
