a reader in the house
I am reading the best book right now.
And this is saying a lot because I read a lot.
I’m talking like 4 or 5 books a month.
Self proclaimed book nerd right here!
So for me to actually talk about a book I am reading on the blog means it has to be good, right?
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory is awesome!
She is the same author who wrote The Other Boleyn Girl (which was also a fantastic movie with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson). Having just visited London this book was fun to read because I could actually picture many of the places where it takes place.
Here’s the synopsis from Amazon: Brother turns on brother to win the ultimate prize, the throne of England, in this dazzling account of the wars of the Plantagenets. They are the claimants and kings who ruled England before the Tudors, and now Philippa Gregory brings them to life through the dramatic and intimate stories of the secret players: the indomitable women, starting with Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen.
The White Queen tells the story of a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition who, catching the eye of the newly crowned boy king, marries him in secret and ascends to royalty. While Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the missing princes in the Tower of London whose fate is still unknown. From her uniquely qualified perspective, Philippa Gregory explores this most famous unsolved mystery of English history, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills.
Oh it is so so good. I started it on Sunday and am definitely going to finish today. I can’t wait. The White Queen is actually the second book in a trilogy called The Cousin’s War Series. So now I am going to have to go back and get the first book, The Lady of the Rivers and the third book, The Red Queen.
What is the last book you read?
right now I’m reading Little Children. It’s really good! I love reading! Thanks for the book suggestion! Sounds great!
Phillipa Gregory has a great way with history, doesn’t she? Just read (or trying to) 1491 so I can move on to 1493! They’re great reads for lovers of historical nonfiction that reads like briskly-paced novels.
I loved The Other Boleyn Girl…so saucy 🙂
This sounds like a really good book and one that I would love! 😀
Umm…the last thing I read was Life & Style magazine. I have been so busy lately, my life has been reduced to skimming trashy tabloids! Gah!
Oooh. Totally going to have to get that from the library when I have a few spare moments to pleasure read! Sounds good!
Oh I needed a new book to read! Thanks for the recommendation!
Sounds good! I love a series. The last book I read was The Secret Garden, before that Room and before that The Help (absolutely loved The Help!)
Have you read The Virgin Blue? I loved it! Couldn’t put it down.
Um… the last book I read was the second True Blood book. I’m currently reading Madame Tussaud and love it! I am a new fan of historical fiction.
I LOVED “The Other Boyln Girl” and am so happy there is another good book by this author. Thank youuuuu.
