one man’s trash is another man’s treasure…er woman
Last week I tweeted about how much I loved ebay because I always find things for cheap! Nicole tweeted back suggesting I do a post on it. So here it is. What I got and why I love it!
First, I am not grossed out by second hand clothing. I always wash it when I get it and I don’t ever buy intimate items like bathing suits, panties, bras or even workout shorts. Those all seem a little too personal to me…but to each their own. But I like my clothes already a little broken in. Is that weird? I am assuming not due to how successful ebay and second hand stores have become. I must be totally normal! ha!
I got this GAP skirt for $7.99
I got this GAP skirt for $6.99
I got this Anthropologie skirt for $9.99
I know that was a lot of skirts but they are great for work with wedges and a top or great for play with a tank top and flip flops. Plus I spent, $36, after shipping for THREE skirts. I couldn’t have purchased one new one from either of those store for $36. So it makes me happy. Cheap clothes = win for Kelly! My other favorite thing to buy off ebay is jeans! There is nothing better than a pair of already broken in jeans. That is love right there! 😉
But just as with anything else I have found a few tricks for ebay. I mean you are still spending money and no matter how good of a deal something is, you shouldn’t just waste money. So first, make sure you know your size! I know what size I wear at GAP so I know what size to look for. I know these skirts will fit me because I know GAP and how GAP clothes fit. When I shop on ebay I usually tend to seek out brands that I absolutely know my size in and know exactly how it fits. I am not likely to bid on an item of clothing from a store I haven’t ever shopped in before and therefore have no idea what that store’s sizing scale is.
Next, if you find something you like from one seller look at what else they are selling. Most of the time if you buy multiple items from the same seller they give you a discount on shipping, as an incentive. I bought both of those GAP skirts from the same seller and she had a deal going on with shipping. If you buy more than one item from her then shipping for the second item was only $1.50. Score. I’ll take it.
Lastly, look at the seller’s ebay rating. Typically I don’t usually bid on anything if the seller has less than a 95% rating. I usually like the 98-99% ratings better. This rating is based on upon other buyers rating the product and service that the seller provided. That, to me, is important. I want the confidence that when I bid on an item it is likely to be as described and shipped timely. And I always take the time to rate the seller. If the products arrives with 6-10 days and it as described I always go back and rate my experience. I figure since I appreciate the rating so much I might as well do my part to continue to the cycle.
There it is…my ebay plan of attack! 😉
Do you ever shop on ebay?
Whoa, nice deals! I should give this a try sometime!
I haven’t but Jason is all about it! He sells a lot of his stuff on ebay too. He just got like $75 for a POS laptop that doesn’t work. I guess they wanted it for parts.
I haven’t actually taken the step to be a seller yet. But it might be a good way to make some extra cash. I know a lot of people who actually make killing off ebay! It is crazy!
I’ve wondered about that myself…but then I wondered how much it’s worth it if you have to pay for shipping and handling too?
I don’t buy online – unless it’s books 😉 – because I’m so not good with guessing my right size between clothing styles!…but man – you got some sweet deals! So pretty 🙂
Well if you are the seller you pass the S&H onto the buyer. So, you list the price for the bidding to start and then you also include a S&H amount…so you don’t lose any money.
I’ve definitely done this before. I love Express pants for work, and it gets expensive even when using their coupons, so I stocked up on a bunch of their pants via ebay. They were new with tags and I still only paid $15 each!
Express black pants are awesome! I also like The Limited.
I’ve never shopped on Ebay, but I shamelessly got 3 pairs of crop pants from a thrift store the other day!
Do you have any sellers or favorite shops you can suggest? I’d love to try ebay!
I can find books cheaper on ebay than amazon someitmes. I love consignment stores. If you ahve the patience to search you can find some really great stuff.
I love ebay. I agree with your tips – I stick to brands I know so that I know the sizing. I’ve got a few things to try to sell this week; I need to get to that.
I love ebay. Its been way too long since I’ve shopped on there. I havent bought much in the way of clothes, but I did get my Super Nintendo off of ebay, and it was the best $20 I’ve ever spent. 🙂
Thanks for the great post! You totally convinced me to give e-bay a try. I never thought of shopping for clothing from the stores I love…anthropology…and can’t afford! This is just another of the many reasons I love your blog! Thanks!
Thanks Chris! Hope you find some good deals!
I’ve bought a few things on ebay and my husband has sold on it. I always forget about it to be honest. Great tips you shared!
I’ve not done ebay too much, but am a huge fan of amazon. I use it to search anything first before I buy online elsewhere.
Good deals always make me feel so proud of myself. :p
yay so glad I inspired your post! great tips. I have to say I don’t usually look on ebay, but I see that changing! 🙂
My aunt and I are big on shopping for antique jewelry on ebay! There are so many beautiful pieces and you can get some really good deals on them! 🙂
Oh yes I love Ebay…and I often have to take breaks from browsing because I love to buy things!
I’ve bought dresses and handbags, which are my favorite thing to scope out!
I shop at the local thrift shop a lot! I have a few things I’ll never buy like undergarments and socks. Why do they sell these anyways?! I always find really great jackets there though!
I LOVE ebay for clothes. Case in point, the skirt I have on today is from ebay and it’s Anthropologie. I think I paid like $15 and I get a ton of compliments. It’s the BEST!!!
