trey’s birth story
Hey guys! Well as I am sure all you know by now (via Facebook and Instagram) I am a mama!! Baby Trey made his debut on Sunday, October 27th at 2:38p.m. He weighed 7lb 1 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. I was 38 weeks and 3 days pregnant when I went into labor. Keith and I are beyond amazed at how much we love our little guy and we could not be happier. We both agreed that everything we went through to get Trey was more than worth it. He is our miracle baby and we love him dearly.
Fun side note but today, November 7th, was my actual due date! 😉
Trey’s Birth Story:
I had had my 38 week appointment on that Thursday and when the doctor checked me I was about 2cm and 60% effaced. He said Trey was sitting very very low in the birth canal indicating that he had moved into position. My doctor told me he thought I would go into labor within the coming week. He was right! I was stressing a little about going into labor because I was sick with a nasty nasty cold that I am sure I caught from my kiddos at school. I was congested and had completely lost my voice. I was nervous that Trey was going to get sick on his first day of life because of me.
That Saturday I was starting to feel marginally better. My voice had returned although it sounded very strained and raspy. I had a hair appointment that afternoon at 1:00 that I was refusing to cancel just in case it was my last opportunity to go for a while. I got my hair cut and was home around 4:00p.m. I was resting on the couch. I could feel some contractions but that was normal for me as I had been having pretty regular contractions since week 33. I didn’t think much about them. Keith ordered in Mexican food and I remember feeling a little nauseous after eating it. I decided to go lay down around 9:00. In bed I started getting some contractions that felt more intense than I was used to. Each one seemed to be a little worse than the next. I started timing them and by 10:30 had a very accurate picture of what was going on. They were every 3 minutes for 60-90 seconds each. I walked downstairs and told Keith I thought we needed to go into the hospital. So he took Bella on a walk first and I made some calls to my parents letting them know what was going on. My mom was going to meet us at the hospital and my Dad was going to get Bella. By the time Keith got home the contractions were so bad I couldn’t talk through them and was having to concentrate on my breathing. The fetal position felt the best and I would rock my body back and forth during each one.
Keith called Labor and Delivery for me and they said for us to come in. Keith decided that he first needed to shower, shave and make himself coffee. I kid you not! And he still needed to pack himself a bag. Let’s just say it was a good 45 minutes before we hit the road and I was almost in tears. We finally get to the hospital and they get us checked in about midnight. The L&D nurse on call checked me and declared me dilated to an 8. The entire room sprang into action. Keith was furiously calling my parents telling them it looked like we would be having a baby soon! They prepped me, got my IV hooked up, took a quick medical inventory, and called in the anesthesiologist. I had decided to get the epidural since the pain was bad and I just didn’t think I could go all the way al natural.
So after everything was in place and doctor poked his head in everyone told me to let them know when I felt pressure down there or if my water broke because that would be a good indication that it was time to start pushing. In the meantime my mom had showed up and we were all just waiting. Well about 4:00a.m. (4 hours after we had checked in) nothing had happened so the L&D nurse decided to check me again and declared me to be at a 4. I was instantly like WTF? How did I go from an 8 to a 4….wasn’t it supposed to go the other way?! Turns out when she had checked me before I was in the middle f a contraction which opened me up to an 8 but once the contraction passed I closed up again. To say that I was disappointed would be a huge understatement. I knew my nurse felt bad so I tried to keep my frustration hidden. We ended up all going to sleep for the remainder of the night (or morning???) Finally around 10:00a.m. the doctor went ahead and broke my bag of water. That felt odd. 🙂
They started noticing that Trey’s heart rate would dip at every contraction indicating that the chord was most likely wrapped around something. They kept a VERY close eye on me. I was worried and I knew they were too but the doctor told me that as long as his heart rate went back up after the contraction passed it was okay. After you have an epidural you have to keep rolling from side to side because gravity is what keeps the medicine flowing and keeps things numb. Well on my left side Trey’s heart rate would drop too low so they kept me on the right. This meant that my epidural wore off on the left side. It was agony. They ended up giving me an epidural booster and allowing me to lay on my left while closely monitoring Trey. 15 minutes later I was numb again and they rolled me over. Finally I started feeling the urge to push. They checked and I was ready! Hallelujah! It was about 1:15-1:30.They started getting everything set up and I started pushing at 1:58p.m. That was the weirdest sensation because I couldn’t tell if I was pushing or not. With every push his heart rate dropped and I could tell that the doctor was worried. They put me on oxygen and at one point I heard him say that if he wasn’t delivered soon they were going to start prepping for a c-section. But a couple of very strong pushes later out he came. I pushed for 40 minutes and welcomed Trey William Bruneman into the world.
Keith was an amazing cheerleader and he watched the entire thing. He said watching his son being born was the most amazing experience of his life. I couldn’t have done it without him. He and my mom were both lifesavers and helped me so much!
I am the luckiest woman in the world. Keith, Me, Trey and Bella are one happy little family these days. (Speaking of Bella…she loves Baby Trey and wants to give him kisses all the time! :))
Thanks to all of you for the wishes, prayers, love and support. Some of you have been on this journey with us since May 2011 and I am so grateful for the outpouring I received from this amazing blogging community.
still hangin on
I am 38 weeks ! Yay!
I am still hanging on. I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon so we’ll see what (if any progress) is being made. The last 2 weeks I have been 1 cm dilated with a spongy cervix.
Oh, I am also sick. Grubby kiddos! I am super congested with a stuffy nose so I am hoping Trey stays put until I kick this thing. The weather finally changed here and it has caused everyone to be sick. This happens to me every year too! The weather FINALLY changes to be beautiful and I’m sick. Whatever.

Pregnancy Updates:
Cravings:Â Same. Last night I ate chips and salsa for dinner. No lie. Oops. #dinnerfail
Weight Gain: I’m up 29 pounds. And that’s all I have to say about that. 😉
Stretch Marks:Â Still NONE! Although I am starting to seriously wonder what on earth my stomach is going to look like after this is all over. Ha!
Swelling:Â Still no swelling! I love love love that I am still wearing my wedding rings without problems.
Movement:Â Trey moving is my nemesis. I live and die by those movements and he has never been a super hard kicker so it took me a long time to feel him (and I have an anterior placenta) and then once I could feel him he was inconsistent with his movement. He still is. Some days he is a kicking, rolling mess and other days barely a peep. It stresses me out so badly.
Sleep: Better now that it has cooled down. But I am still uncomfortable as can be! My back and hips hurt a lot at night. But sweet Bella has started sleeping right up against my back and that helps a ton. It’s like an anchor for me to lean on. She’s a good dog! 🙂
Group B Strep Test: PASSED! Holla!
Can’t wait for my appointment today….hopefully I have something to update you with soon! 🙂
35 and 36
I made it to 36 weeks. Wow!
I can’t believe it. I am really going to be a mom! 🙂 It all seems so surreal to me.
35 weeks
36 Weeks
I am feeling really good. I am still having pretty regular contractions but I am going in today for my 36 week appointment and I know my doctor is going to check me. So we’ll see…but since my contractions have not increased at all in intensity I am going to say there is probably nothing going on down there yet. 😉
I Â think Keith and I are both a little nervous about Trey’s arrival. Life as we know it is going to change and that’s scary for us. We’ve been together for 9 1/2 years (married for 7 1/2) and it has always just been us: Keith and Kelly. We are so beyond excited about Trey entering our lives but I think we are both just a smidge apprehensive about it. I mean we have no idea what we’re doing! Ha! But I know that with the help of friends and family and just following our own path we will figure it all out. I just sometimes look at my belly and think…holy cow! I’m really going to be a mom in a few weeks.
Updates:
Cravings: Still the same old same old…spicy spicy spicy! Although ever since my baby shower I have had a sudden love affair with M&M’s. 🙂
Weight Gain: I’m up 28 pounds. Inching closer to that 30 pound mark. Honestly, at this point I so don’t care. I’m uncomfortable as hell so I doubt a few more lb’s is going to make much of a difference. I have started putting a pillow under my back at night and it has helped take some of the pain away. The only thing that bothers me is when people make comments about how huge I am. It is like people don’t think pregnant women have feelings. I know I’m big but I don’t really think I am that big. But whatever.
Stretch Marks: Still NONE! I can’t believe it. But I am hoping that continues. I am so close! But as my belly stretches to it’s maximum in the coming weeks I will definitely still be using lotion twice a day.
Swelling: Still none thank goodness. I still have ankles and my wedding rings still fit fine. I am considering myself lucky on this one! Although I know swelling can pop up really suddenly in the last few weeks I have been super lucky on that front.
Movement: All the time. Trey is active and I love it! I also realized what hiccups felt like and he hiccups quite a lot. I always drink a lot of water when he starts hiccuping but then Keith told me he doesn’t think me drinking water is going to help Trey. All it is doing is making me pee more. Ha!
Sleep: Eh….not great. I am usually up anywhere from 3-5 times a night to go to the bathroom and I am uncomfortable. Sleeping on my sides isn’t great because my hips and back start hurting half way through the night. I was a tummy sleeper in my pre-pregnancy life and I am so ready to sleep on my tummy again. Plus in recent weeks Bella has taken to sleeping most (if not all) of the night with us in bed. She nestles in close to me (which, who am I kidding, I LOVE) but she makes me even hotter than I already am! WHEN IS FALL COMING TO TEXAS?! I know I shouldn’t complain, our high today is only 88 which considering I spent my entire second and third trimester in 100+ degree heat almost everyday this should feel like a regular cold front. Everyone is wearing cardigans and boots. Me? I am in tank tops and shorts. Ha!
So, that’s it. Like I said I have my 36 week appointment today and I am also getting the Group B Strep test…cross your fingers. I would prefer that to be negative. 🙂 I’ll update again soon.
Have a GREAT Wednesday!
scary weekend + nursery photos
Happy Monday!
This weekend was good although we did have one little scare. I got into a minor car accident. A lady rear ended me at a stop light. She wasn’t going very fast and my car only needs a new bumper due to minor damage. But being 8.5 months pregnant I was a little freaked. I ended up going into the hospital to get checked out and was actually having very regular contractions. They were coming every 3 minutes for about 30 seconds. The hooked me up to the monitors and Trey was fine. They checked my cervix and it was closed. They then made me stay on the monitors for 4 hours. At the end of the 4 hours I was still having contractions 3 minutes apart so they checked my cervix again and there was no change. So they sent me home and told me to come back is they got worse, they haven’t, and to follow up with my doctor today, which I will.
I am so thankful that the accident was minor and that Trey is okay. But this mama-to-be is a little freaked out by my constant contractions.
So onto a more exciting thing….nursery pictures! The nursery is finally 100% complete and I am thrilled with how it all turned out! Here are some pictures. I took these with my phone and they are a little yellow. So sorry for the quality. 😦 I did a sports theme….shocking right?
It’s all so exciting! I can’t believe that it is almost time! AHHHH! 🙂
