i am going to be waiting awhile

March 24, 2011

I was driving home when my cell phone rang. My husband informed he just bought an organic Gala apple tree and had planted it in our backyard. Organic gala apples that I don’t have to pay for any time I want? Score!

I rushed home (yes mom I was speeding…sorry) and I had visions of this:

But this is what I have:

Looks like I am going to be waiting a really long time for some apples. Don’t expect me to be baking you an apple pie anytime soon.

It would have been better if it was a honeycrisp apple tree 😉

You’re gonna love it when the apples finally come in. My parents had 2 pair trees when we moved into their house, and they were awesome. They actually had to take one of the trees down because it made too many pears. I’m still upset about it.

I wanted a pear tree but my husband doesn’t love pears (what?!?!) so we compromised on an apple tree. I really wanted a pink lady apple tree but they didn’t have any! Oh well…seriously though it is going to be forever before any apples start falling from that tree!

Ha…yeah can you see the garden peeking up in the background? We have spinach, tomatoes, asparagus, peppers and broccoli all going! Got love the “local” (read: backyard) market!

I’m so glad you are back blogging! I had wondered what happened to your leg and your hand.

Thanks Marci! The hand is put back together but I will be honest (or vain) it doesn’t look normal! And the knee is on again off again…sigh…too much running on that little thing. I had a bursa sac that eventually I had drained and now I feel like I am just timid.

Ahh, apples. I have an apple tree in my backyard too. It has only actually fruited two of the years I’ve lived here. My grandparents had about 10 trees and my grandma made the BEST applesauce.

How long until it produces apples? Years?

Haha, yes, it will take a long time, but you have to start somewhere. 🙂

I am looking forward to starting an herb garden next weekend. It will produce much faster results. 🙂

We have an herb garden too! That is what is in all those pots you can see in the picture background. We have thyme, rosemary, basil, dill, oregano and we are also growing strawberries in a pot. 🙂

I got a spam e-mail from you a few days ago. Then I got another e-mail about Bret Farve or whoever, and even though it said “whatkellysaid.com” I didn’t want to click on it for fear of it being a virus or something scary.

AHAHH!!!!!!!!! YOU’RE BACK AND I AM SOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
