things
Good Afternoon!
I hope you are having a great Tuesday. I know I am. It is the last week of our third 9 weeks so we are in testing mode. Then it is onto the fourth 9 weeks and then say it with me, “SCHOOL IS OUT FOR SUMMER!” I’m not excited…not at all. 😉
So we got double whammed on the weather a few weeks ago. A hurricane strength wind storm (65mph winds!) and then a hail storm hit right back to back. All this means a new roof for the Brunemans! Woot Woot! I am very excited about this because Keith and I are going to put our house on the market come summer and a new roof will be a nice little selling perk. We love our house but we’re ready to move on. Bigger and better dreams, right? We aren’t leaving our current location…we LOVE where we live…we just want to upgrade a little. So we’ll see. Personally I am ready to put it on the market like yesterday! ha! If you live in the ATX area and are looking…email me. 😉 Never hurts right?
I have read 3 books since we last chatted. Yes, THREE! And I loved all three. If you follow me on Goodreads then you know but if not I simply must tell you about them:
1. Before You Know Kindness, Chris Bohjalian
2. Lessons in French, Hilary Reyl
3. The Life You’ve Imagined, Kristina Riggle
All three are worth reading, in my opinion, so if you are stuck for next download or book purchase I recommend these!
Alright, that’s all I have today. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week. I do have some awesome recipes I pulled off Pinterest that I plan on trying in the very near future so I will report back ASAP!
Ciao!
the return of a classic
I am bad about getting into food ruts. I mean baaaaaaaad. I find something I like and I want it. Everyday. For weeks. Months. And then, just like that, I am burned out.
Shocking, no?
For example, when Keith and I went on our honeymoon (goodness almost 7 years ago!) I had Ahi tuna every single stinkin night. For 10 straight nights. It was like the ultimate seafood experience.
(Please no one tell me how freaking high my blood mercury levels were….YIKES)
But my point, is that I tend to find something I like and until the urge has been completely destroyed I eat it in full force. I went on an overnight oat kick for a while and then got so sick of it that to look at oats made me cringe. I took a good 8-9 month hiatus. Well, my friends, I broke that this morning.
It was the return of overnight oats. Although since it was 37 this morning I probably should have gone with something, oh a tad more, HOT! I never said my taste buds followed weather patterns.
No Frills Overnight Oats
1/2 cup rolled oats (I use the Bob Red Mill GF kind)
3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup almond milk
2 Tbsp. ground flaxseed
2 tsp. chia seeds
1 tsp honey
dash of salt
Mix everything together and let sit overnight. In the morning simply eat.
Pretty easy and pretty tasty. I know this is the basic of all recipes but sometimes I don’t need the entire kitchen sink to make my mouth happy. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best.
Happy Tuesday.
happy birthday mr. bruneman
spring break
So spring break came and went. I loved every single stinkin minute of it.
I did nothing.
Absolutely nothing and it was glorious.
I spent a lot of time walking sweet Bella. We went for at least an hour every day and I explored lots of new nooks and crannies in my neighborhood. It was fun. I tend to get so set in my routine that I forget to branch out. That goes for all aspects of my life. So just wandering around my neighborhood and winding up and down streets I had never been on before was a nice change of pace for me. I love to walk my dog. I don’t listen to music. I just walk. And think. And put my thoughts out into the Universe. It can be quite calming. Â Plus who wouldn’t love walking this sweet girl? This is her, “I’m ready….” stance! ha!Â
The other cool thing I did was download this awesome app! It is called My Gratitude Journal. It was free and it lets you write every day things you are grateful for. I love it! I know I sometimes have a hard time slowing down enough to appreciate all the things {big and small, ordinary and amazing} that happen everyday. This is such a cool way to just take a minute everyday to note a few personal things that filled you with joy. I have started doing it every night before going to bed and it really does make me smile and ends my day on a positive note.Â
I tried a few recipes but nothing noteworthy. Bummer. I was actually quite disappointed because I had such high hopes for a few of them. I did, however, eat at Whole Foods more than my wallet would have liked! Ha! I can’t help myself…when I actually get longer than 25 minutes for lunch without having to simultaneously make copies or grade papers…I take full advantage. I was in foodie heaven.Â
Other than that and some major R&R it was a good week. A much needed {restful} week.
And this week….back to work. Oh, who am I kidding, I love those little faces! 🙂Â
